Motherhood and Writing: The Challenge

Posted by natashasheldon at 11:35 AM on December 17, 2009

Rather quiet of late but things have been busy since the 11th November! Marcus William was born at 12.31pm. As you can imagine, he's been taking up most of my time. So begins the challenge of juggling motherhood with writing.

Not as impossible as it seems if you have a good baby and are willing to sacrifice even more sleep! I managed to write 30 articles for Suite101 by the end of November. Most were before Marcus's birth but I managed to complete 12 after giving myself a week off to recover from the trauma of the C section.

This helped to make me feel 'more myself' after leaving hospital feeling like I'd been run over by a truck. It was also good writing discipline and has made me realise how much more time can be salvaged from an already busy day.

That challenge completed successfully I'm taking some time off now to spend soley with my son.  But I'm already thinking ahead to the beginning of not only a new year but a new decade and what I want to achieve-as a mother but also as a writer.

Congratulations on the birth of your son! I hope his arrival stimulates your creative nature. May he be a source of inspiration for your free-lance work. I see a future when he takes pride in his mother's work. Do you think there is a bond between mother and child that can be regarded as psychic? Does a mother experience a sixth sense -- an intuitive knowledge -- of her child's needs? You will receive many wonderful blessings as a mother, and your readers will appreciate your new sensitivity and acquired ability -- Stephen Contrado, B.A., Th.M.
